We are happy to announce our very first Data Café which will take place on April 16th at the Mensa Zülpicher Straße in Cologne. We’ll be right next to the Coffee Bar!

the aim of the event is to provide informal consulting opportunities for students, PhD’s, and early PostDocs such as: quick questions on e.g. how to structure your files in a way it makes sense, second opinions on your statistical analysis or data visualization, or even a first chat regarding the possibility of using machine learning methods for your project.

As an additional benefit, each consultation comes with a free drink of your choice from the coffee bar!

Make sure to stop by and talk to us about your research data and methods. We’re looking forward to seeing you at Mensa Zülpicher Straße on April 16th between 10Am and 2PM:

Event Details:

  • Time: Wednesday, April 16th @ 10am - 2pm, 2025
  • Location: Zülpicher Straße 70, 50937 Cologne (Directions via OpenStreetMaps, Google Maps)

This post is a condensed version of a talk at our Data Compentcy College

If you regularly use scientific software written by others, or tried to replicate interesting research that relies on software, you have probably also invested weeks of work to solve a software problem or even given up on a software because of missing documentation. Finding a project that might be the solution to your problem and then failing to run the code is frustrating. Being unable to run a project you have built yourself years ago is even worse. Having experienced all those setbacks myself in the past I want to use this post to channel that frustration to fuel solutions for better documentation for our current and future projects.
